If you've been on the fence about getting a suppressor, now may be just the time you've been waiting on. Silencer Central has truly simplified the process and with recent advancements in governmental processing speeds, your shusher stick may be closer than you think.
We've all made excuses - false reasons as to why we can't take out the trash or make it to work on time. Or one of the best of all times..."The dog ate my homework!"
When it comes to purchasing a suppressor, there can be a long list of those excuses.
-"I think there's a lot of paperwork involved, right?"
-"It takes so long to even get one, I don't want my money tied up waiting to get an approval."
-"Isn't the process really involved? I don't know where to even get started."
-"Don't I have to go somewhere and get fingerprinted? Where would I even do that?"
For several years, we used those same excuses. We didn't even know if there was a Class 3 FFL anywhere near us to complete the transfer, but Adrian was willing to do some research and wade through all the red tape to make a purchase. She decided on the Dead Air Nomad 30, completed all the paperwork, found a kiosk to get fingerprinted, and then we waited...and waited...and waited. Finally, after about 9-10 months, her confirmation was given, and we could go pick it up.
The sound reduction is awesome. Plus, you get the added benefit of reduced recoil. And with that decrease in recoil, many times the end result is better accuracy. Of course, if you're not looking for any of those reasons, the ease of shooting and reduced noise makes trips to the range more enjoyable for all members of the family.
So, the next logical step was to start kicking around the idea of getting another one. But did we really want to go through all those steps again?
Thankfully, it seems like the federal government was also thinking that things within the ATF system were too complicated. They had been working on the eForm method of filing suppressor tax stamp paperwork for a while, and it was ready for roll out. Based on what we heard, there was a large initial push of people filing eForms that bogged down the system. But now, those long wait times have significantly decreased.
Along with the progression of eForm filing, it's seems that Silencer Central was listening to all your excuses and feedback to streamline their system for purchasing a suppressor.
Interestingly enough, they've been doing this a lot longer than eForms have been around. Silencer Central was started over 20 years ago "to offer customers a more simplified process for safely and legally obtaining a firearm sound suppressor (silencer)." They've taken your feedback and eliminated any pain points in the process for much easier purchasing decision.
The hardest part now is determining which shusher stick you want to spin onto the threads of your favorite gun. And I said gun because they can easily attach to pistols, rifles, or any AR style gun as long as the barrel is threaded. Depending on the suppressor you choose, there are different adapters or direct thread applications that make it easy to use.
I know I'm probably starting to sound like a broken record right about now, but they can even help you make the decision about which can is for you. Their "Find Your Silencer" part of the website can give you recommendation based on your main usage.
Whether you know the exact suppressor you want or their system helps you decide, the website steadily guides you from here.
Adrian decided on the Banish 30, partially because it works with all rifle calibers from .17 to .30 caliber magnums. But also because of the sound suppression capabilities and different configurations available. Of course, it was one of the ones recommended for our primary use of hunting with a .30 caliber rifle like her CVA Cascade .308.
Once you've honed in on the exact one you want, simply "Add to Cart" and let the website keep showing you the next step.
Your $206 tax stamp should be automatically added to the cart, as well as a fingerprint kit that will be sent to your home. Keep in mind, if they are running a Buy One, Get One special that free one will be added to the cart as well as the $206 tax stamp for it.
When it comes to the next few steps in the process, I'm not going to steer you in either direction because you need to make the best decision for you. Either way, it's time to decide how you will file your forms. The ATF will still process forms that are printed and mailed to them, but the processing/wait times for filing with an eForm are generally faster.
And, will you file Form 4 paperwork as a Trust or as an Individual? Don't hesitate to speak with one of Silencer Central's customer service agents at this point. They can help guide you in determining which way of filling will most suit your needs. Make sure to check the processing times for each as well.
For this part, we decided to file eForms. Adrian had to make sure she had an ATF Online Account and Silencer Central kept walking her through step by step. She completed the fingerprinting kit at home, uploaded a passport style photo, and then was ready to jump on a call with a customer service agent to ensure each step had been completed and, most importantly, her paperwork was correct. If something is wrong in that paperwork, those wait times listed could easily double.
Once it's confirmed that everything is in order, Silencer Central takes care of filing the eForm and the wait begins. Based on YouTube video comments, those wait times have been as low as two (2) hours and as long as listed on the website.
After your tax stamp is approved by the ATF, you will get an email to let you know. While you can follow along with the whole process through the Silencer Central website, I would think most people just simply wait on that email.
A link will be sent to you for filling out the FFL transfer paperwork through Silencer Central's website and then we wait again. Local Law Enforcement is notified the suppressor will be shipped to your home, and Silencer Central gets confirmation tat this notification has taken place. Next up, a seven (7) day waiting period before the can will finally be shipped directly to your door!
Rest assured, there is a signature required, and no one can just grab it off your front porch. Of course, if you're not going to be home on the delivery date provided, it's easy to have it held at your local Post Office for pick up.
Once it's in your hands, the rest is up to you! Time to hit the range and enjoy.
This whole process for us to get a Banish 30, took basically about 6 weeks before we could attach it to a rifle. That's a far cry from the 9-10 months we've previously experienced.
Taken Directly from Silencer Central's Website:
A: There are countless benefits of owning a silencer, a few of which include:
1) Better Experience – Game is less likely to spook while hunting.
2) Reduces Recoil – Significantly reduces recoil when you shoot.
3) Increased Accuracy – Because of recoil reduction.
4) Less Noise – Means you won’t disrupt neighbors, family or pets.
5) Great for Family – Added safety for even the youngest family members.
A: When it comes to the government – and especially the ATF – one can never know for sure. Presently, we don’t know how much faster it will be. With that said, our research based on previous electronic Form 4 approvals and the current electronic Form 1 approvals suggests that once this process gets rolling, the total time needed to secure a transfer approval of a silencer should be reduced from the current 10 months (or more) wait time, to an approximate 150 days.
A: The real answer to this is that it is entirely up to you. Only you can decide what works best for your circumstances. It’s pretty obvious that we tend to prefer trusts for the flexibility they provide. That’s why we offer trust setup as a free service. However, we also see the benefit to individual filing, as you will likely get your silencer faster. Go through all the pros and cons to each and just know that we’re here to help you regardless of what you choose.
A: Yes, you can add any silencer to a trust after you buy it by filing as an individual. Just keep in mind a few things. You will need to have legal help is setting up the new trust and adding in the silencer. There will likely be fees involved, but we can’t predict what those will be. There is also the issue of a tax stamp. If you transfer your silencer to a trust, you will need to buy a new tax stamp for it under the trust, according to the ATF.
A: Yes. Buy one silencer and you can use it on all guns of smaller caliber. For example, if you bought the Banish 30 Multi-Caliber Suppressor, it will work with all of your rifle calibers from .17 to .30 caliber magnums.
A: Buying a silencer can be an intimidating task. Dealing with the government and their seemingly constantly changing laws is enough to discourage even the most savvy shooting enthusiast. Silencer Central makes it simple to own a silencer. We do all the work for you and make it easy.
1. Select your silencer – We offer the best brands and can help you choose the silencer that’s right for you.
2. We do the paperwork – We will manage the entire buying process for you, let you pay for your silencer in installments and even set up a free NFA Gun Trust that allows others to use your silencer.
3. Direct-to-your-door shipping – Once approved, we will ship you new silencer directly to your door.
We were just like you the first time we thought we wanted a suppressor. In fact, we put it off for a while because the process seemed so arduous. All those same excuses came into play and we delayed. Not any more though!
Except of course, the price and the required $206 ATF Tax Stamp. There's still that, but, they even try to combat those higher prices with sales and buy one, get one offers.
If you've been on the fence about getting a suppressor, it might be time to come on over to the quiet side of that fence!

Silencer Central did send the Banish 30 to us for use in this review, but the process we went through to get it would be the same process for you.
